PRESIDENTIAL
PARDON
Proud recipient of first-ever presidential pardon from The Society of American Magicians for “making the rest of us look bad by tirelessly building community through Grand Rapids Magic Fest, converting legions into magic fans... And, of course, that hair.”
A Kid From Paw Paw.
I grew up near Colon, Michigan, the "Magic Capital of the World."The town I actually grew up in was called Paw Paw, which is honestly a better story.
I started young. Talent shows, birthday parties, block parties, and busking on the street for whoever would stop and watch. There was something about that moment, something impossible happening right in front of someone who didn’t see it coming, that I couldn’t get enough of. I still can’t.
I went to college and studied event management, hospitality, and leadership. Turned out everything I was learning in the classroom I was already doing in every room I performed in. Reading a crowd. Managing energy. Making people feel something. The degrees confirmed what the shows had already taught me.
What kept me going as a performer wasn’t one big break. It was the people. Going to magic conventions and watching the performers I’d seen on TV become peers and mentors. People who had every reason to protect their secrets choosing to help a kid from Paw Paw instead. That kind of generosity shaped everything about how I do this.
Eighteen years later I’m still in Michigan. My wife Ashley and I live in Grand Rapids with our two hairless cats, Cannoli and Biscotti. I produce a monthly magic show at Wealthy Theatre, co-founded a nonprofit in memory of my brother that gives teenagers free access to music and art lessons, and I still get excited butterflies every single time I walk into a room.
I love what I do. I love people. I love breaking the ice and watching a room come alive. I’m an authentic person doing something special, and a special person doing something authentic.
